  • Register for the North Star District Merit Badge Academy

Posted on December 14th, 2011 davis No comments

Did you miss the last Merit Badge Academy sign-up?  Well, here is your chance to register for the optional North Star  District Merit Badge Academy.  This is a well executed event north of the river.  Note that this MB academy is scheduled for Saturday, March 24th, but there are NO conflicts with Troop 332 activities.  Here are the details:

    North Star District MB Forum:

    Quick Facts:

    ·         Date:                     Saturday, March 24th.

    ·         Time:                     8:00 am to 4:00 pm

    ·         Cost:                      $40/scout  (Yes, this one is expensive).  Lunch is included.

    ·         Where:                      North Kansas City  High School

    ·         Merit Badges:         There are many different offerings.  I always suggest getting “Eagle Required” badges within Troop 332 if possible.

    What you need to do:

    1.       Look at the list of Merit Badges offered below.

    2.       Choose the Merit Badges you would like to earn.  There is an AM class and a PM class, so a well-prepared scout will earn two merit badges this day.

    3.       Send your SIX choices (we need alternates in case the class fills up quickly) to Steve Davis and he will include them on the registration form.  Send this information before 01/05/2012.

    What Steve Davis will do:

    1.       Steve Davis will place your preferred and alternate selections on the registration form.

    2.       Register our scouts as a troop.

    3.       Collect $40 from everyone interested in registering.

    4.       Steve Davis will provide the formal approved class registration and schedule to those registered by February 1, 2012.

    Misc. Details:

    ·         Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

    ·         The official deadline for registration is January 24.  We do NOT want to wait that long.  These classes fill-up quickly.  Let’s plan to get registered by 01-06-2012 at the LATEST so the scouts will have the best chance of getting into their 1st choice class.

    ·         We’ll need some adults leaders (at least two) for youth protection reasons.  The fee for adults leaders is $20.

    ·         This is an expensive Merit Badge Academy.  Other options are available for much lower cost (the window has closed for registration for those other events), however, the instruction at this event is top notch.  It is coordinated through the Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) group at William Jewell College.  Many classes are instructed by well-qualified instructors and expectations of scouts is very high.  This is a great opportunity to really EARN a two merit badges.
